Battery cable corrosion
My ’99 LS 400 has had some recent hart start problems as of late. The battery sounds low, but after closer inspection, the negative battery cable has some corrosion. I replaced the end a year or so ago and the corrosion has traveled about an inch down the cable causing the problem (I think). I contacted Lexus and they only sell the complete wiring harness. I don’t really want to go that route and was thinking:
1. Buying a replacement cable and splicing it (anyone know of a method or hardware to splice batter cables?)
2. Bypassing the current cable and buy a cable and connect it to a good ground source on the car.
Any other ideas?

You can find battery cable butt connectors at a good marine supply store and some NAPA stores, e.g.

To use them, you'll need to find a Greenlee K05-1GL crimper, or similar. Again, a larger marine supply, West Marine, or NAPA might have a suitable crimper you can use.
Cover with adhesive lined shrinkwrap.

Visit a body shop and ask how they would replace a battery cable that was mangled by a collision that damaged only the left front corner of the car.
Or ask the Lexus dealer for an alternative. A Lexus dealer replaced a defective battery cable on my first LS in around 1994 at my expense just after the car's basic warranty expired -- I don't remembering it costing much. They certainly didn't replace the entire engine compartment harness.

Go to wal-mart and buy a corrosion preventive kit made by noco. Here is the link for what to look for http://www.noco-usa.com/pdf/Noco-Catalog-Chemicals.pdf Clean you connector and put the green and red pad on the connector.
If your connector are not usable you can also buy Ever Start connector (get marine one because they have a butterfly nut).
