The gears in the odometer probably stripped like the ones in the odometer for the 90 LS I had did at around 125,000 miles. The problem is quite common. The good news is that the cost of a replacement odometer is fairly low -- don't remember how much but I think several years ago I posted on this forum a photo of the old odometer, the part number and how much I paid. The same odometer was used on a number of Toyota models.

Edit: Here is the thread where I posted the photo and part number: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-odometer.html

The Odometer in my LS wasn't Working either, But A bit of interesting Information i Stumbled upon while doing the Fog Light Mod to my 1991 LS And needing to replace the Integration Relay Under the Fuse panel Revealed that the Odometer might have a connection to it. because after everything was put back together and in working order my Odometer started Working Again! Im not 100% Sure but its in my Study book and i have switched back and forth from the old relay and the Odometer does not work with it, but once the Replacement is put in it works!

I had this problem in my 96 impala. Don't know if it would be the same for the Lexus but I'll chip in anyways. Why I did was pull the instrument cluster and expose the circuit board. There should be a circuit that needs resoldered that probably has gone bad. Not sure which one tho. I tried :/

there's a 100page+ thread on the instrument cluster. suffice to say it's not that simple.

Like I said I've never had to do it in my Lexus but in the impala it really was simple. Took me 10 minutes to have the cluster in my hand and look at the broken circuit.

Default need odometer

I have a 1990 ls 400. All the instruments work except the odometer. I took one out of a low mileage 92 . The gear that meshes with the worm gear on the motor was broken. I'm guessing mine has a similar problem. I am afraid now to try another used one. Can you find a new replacement that isn't defective?
