Default bendix/ starter won't stop turning

Yesterday I started my 1996 ls400, drove a few minutes then shut it off. HOWEVER, the starter kept spinning, at least part of it!! The key off ( & out of ignition) & it just kept going. Put the key back in & turned it to "start" & it did. Had to remove the battery terminal to get it stopped.. Removed all relays, & more but it kept going when I hooked the battery back up!! Any ideas?? A short at the starter or?
Thanks

It sounds like your solenoid plunger inside the starter has stuck so the contacts are closed all the time.
Looks like a complete strip down to replace the starter or repair the original.

steve is correct... I put new contacts in one of mine earlier this year, just pull the intake off and get after it.
the photos will show you where it is...
