IS to LS
I belong to this forum on the IS side. I have an 06 IS 350 and have become very interested in the design and mostly the reliability of the LS 400. I would use it as an extra car for a couple of months. I have read some threads saying that the certain years were better to consider. But, I found an extremely clean, 1992 ls 400 with 140k for 3500 (can negotiate). Is there anything specifically to look for and what is the highest mileage you have seen ( I know this has been asked a million times).
if both of those your good to go. pay attention to the instrument cluster though. look to se if the gas gauge pops into position or kinda goes up slowly while you test drive it. then of course the normal things like clunks or clacks when going over bumps in the front end same as buying any used car from there on out.
oh ya and once you get it. its ok to like that smooth ride over the 06...
Nothing major but nonetheless issues to take care of. The Timing belt is big. As well, the instrument cluster lights, stuck speedo needles and the infamous trunk lid wiring that causes blown bulbs and other fuse box "joys". Aside from that...
Check it over otherwise, the 95-97 is the next tier and the VVTi motor of the 98+. Why stop there, just get the LS460.
