Default 99 UCF21 dead speedo?

I searched found a lot of info about dead speedo lighting in earlier models but the lights on my 99 still work fine the problem is today the needle stopped moving, the odometer and gas mileage display in the cluster still work, that narrows it down to a problem internal to the cluster correct?

I a handy with a soldering iron and familiar with cluster work http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...ification.html

I am hoping somebody can tell me what component needs to be replaced?

just got her back on the road after timing belt water pump etc change this weekend.

Mine does that sometimes. I just smack the top of the dashboard and it always comes back to life. Don't be afraid to give it a good whack.

Ok that was easy, gave it a good whack while under way and up it came,

So this is likely to come back? Any idea what the problem is? Is it mechanical in the needle or electrical?

On a side note that is a really solid feeling dash, not a rattling flemsy cheap dash found in common vehicles.

Oh yeah, very likely to come back again, and again.... Oh, and again. There have been different fixes to get them to not stick. If you search "sticky speedometer" you will find some answers. Mine sticks but I haven't bothered fixing it yet, until I pull the cluster out again. My favorite fix is by Och, he put some pins in his cluster so the needles don't go down past zero, and he mentions that Lexus now does that on newer models. You can read how it did it in post #30 of this, but the pics are gone; https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ot-work-2.html

Dean shark, thank you very much for the link, apparently this is common in hot weather, I live in FL,

Going to try cleaning the internal stop, if that does not work I will add an external stop pin

I have a 00 and it sticks also, but be careful how hard you hit the dash. I tapped mine one time and the lights flickered. I have been using a winsheild visor during the day because it seemed to do it when the dash was getting baked in this FL heat. Since then not so much. Good luck
