ls400 wont shift

ls400 wont shift
i got a 91 ls400 n it recently threw on the side of the road. engine still work cherry but when i try to put it to drive it wont shift but when i shut the engine off it seem to work for about half a mile. My mechanic told me that its the shift solenoid n i jus wanted a second opinion on this... if any jus let me know... thanks..

Have the transmission codes read or if you have a paper clip you can do it yourself,then you will know if your mechanic is right or not.
BTW this is the 2nd topic you have posted regarding your transmission problem,in the 1st you asked where to get shift solenoids which was answered now you appear to be doubting your mechanics diagnosis.
Please try and keep this to one topic to avoid duplication of the topic and members efforts to help you.
