Best highway tires?
Hey guys, I'm looking to put some new rubber on my wifes '92 LS400. Any recommendations on tires? This car sees alot of highway use, so I'm looking for something that will have decent life but also decent traction and handling ofcourse. Any input appreciated.
Thanks

I had Michelins MXV4. Strong Side Walls , great stability, superb quality, a little over-priced, traction is OK, not great in the Rain though. but great tire life.
I DOWN graded to Dunlops SP4000 H-Rated. I don't drive that fast on the Hgwy, about 90mph tops. They have a longer life than most of the V-rated tires except the MXV4. The problem is that the side walls are weaker and stabilty over 80 mph isn't great.
So I run them hard at 38 psi and they feel better. The reason why I bought them is taht Tirerack sold them for $47 a piece.
I couldn't resist that price per tire. Overall , I like them.

Can you compare them to the Michelin MWV4's? Are they quieter? How about wet weather? I ain't worried about how long they last
Check out the new Turanzas on the Tire Rack at:

Selewis,
I checked 'em out on tirerack.com. Only problem is "snow rating" of "0." No can do in VA. Gosh, they look like they'd have at least a few points!!!!
thanks for info.

Tires.
Topshelf,
I'm running Pirellis PZeros. I love the traction, the design
of the tire and the quality of the ride. And best of all, the
tires are super quiet, I mean you can not hear your tires at
all. The only problem with them is the price. But I believe
that if you want good quality you have to pay quality prices.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your tire search.

Yeah, that 0 rating inthe snow category must be some kind of mistake or something. It's an all season tire. Last time I checked there were 4 of em I would like to know how the handle the snow.
And Rover, I'm gonna check those Pirellis out. I do agree you get what you pay for.
Thanks and keep the input coming.

94 LS 400 Tires
I have used the Goodyear Eagle GA's on my LS and was not happy with the wear pattern, so I bought the Fulda's. I have had them on my LS for about 3,000 miles now. The Fulda's ride nicer and perform better than the Eagle GA's... Also the 225/60R16 Fulda's cost less than the Eagle's.. I paid $80.00 each @ Tread Quaters. Total for warranty, tax mounting etc $108.00 each. Hope this information can help you.

RE950s vs. Turanzas
Hi Topshelf. I have been running the Potenza RE950s on my '94 Acura Legend Sedan for past 16K miles, (just over 11 months). The RE950s are a good tire, and a great match for the Legend, which is a more 'sportier' handling car than the LS400. However, they are wearing relatively fast, and I do not typically drive the Legend aggressively--maybe fast, 80-100 on the freeways, but definitely not hard through corners. The RE950s are much more performance oriented than a Gran Touring tire, and thus have stiffer sidewalls than the quiet and silky smooth riding Turanzas.
The RE950s are also louder than the Turanzas. I spoke with the owner of the local Firestone/Bridgestone dealer at length before I bought the LS400 tires a few months ago (2500 miles ago) and he agreed that the RE950 was too aggressive for the LS. As you may know, many LS400s came factory with V-rated Turanzas, and I ended up going with the newest Turanza, the LS-H, but I went with the H rating since I don't really need a 149+mph tire on the big Lexus.
Based on my experience, I would have to say that the RE950 is not a good match for the LS400, for_the_average_driver. A hot shoe might like them, but I think they'd be too noisy and too harsh, and I'm only 35.
I'd venture to say that the RE950s would be a fine choice for a GS300/400, but like I said, I had the choice when I bought new a few months ago, and I chose the Turanzas over the RE950s.
Overall, I like Bridgestones, they're good tires IMO, I've been using them for years on my Mustangs with no problems, and no blowouts.
Good Luck and Best Regards,
The Bridgestone Man,
