'98 Nakamichi headunit replacement
I currently have a Nakamichi and I was wondering if it fails, can I swap in a non-Nakamichi headunit from a '98-00 with no problem? Will the sound quality remain the same?

NisMax did you have any luck? I am looking to replace my Nakimichi HU also. I will go either original or aftermarket, whatever works and can sustain the sound quality I have enjoyed for the last 10 years. Check out this post I posted today. Sounds like I have the same original set-up as you. Thanks.

I drive a 99 that had a Nakamichi 6 disc system in it and just replace it with a double Din touchscreen. I had a shop do it and they had to wire it themselves since there is no wire harness made and they also had to do an amp bypss. I got them to do it all for 500$ including the unit i got from them. The sound is better with the new head unit but they werent able to bypass the sub so its not hooked up. Im getting new speakers and and amp installed tomorrow so im completing redoing the system but it works just fine adding a new headunit if you get someone that knows how to do the amp bypass.

No need for a new thread. My question is the same...
I have the Nakamichi in my 99'. Im sic of the Ipod tape adapter. After learning that the Beatsonic does not apply. I searched for hours... Is there not a kit on the market where I can retain my NAK speakers/amp/sub with an aftermarket double din ?? Has anyone sucessfully done this ?
I know I want the Beatsonic woodgrain kit, probably a decent Pioneer or Alpine but can I easily use my above mentioned components without paying someone hours to figure it out ?
Thx

if all you want is an auxiliary input why don't you just do this?

PD - I've read your thread like 5 times. It's a great concept but I was trying to avoid any hacking if there was a plug & play option. I understand about 75% of it, but know for sure I've retired from wiring anything after my last car. I know of a IPod kit that directly hacks into the FM radio but first I must track it down & see if it works on the Nak.
Glove81 - I kind of figured the above option would be the affordable solution. I've thought of ripping out everything & starting fresh you did. Those labour rates are reality check if you want someone else to do it...
