Default tail light failure

Hi my ls400 is reading tail light failure. I look in the back and don't see any light off. Also is there any picture on how to chance the light bulb in rear of car.

did you install LED bulbs?
often they can set off light failure warnings because they dont draw the same power

That's your answer then, either refit the old bulbs or fit a ballast resistor to compensate for the lack of current being drawn by the LEDs.

I see from your profile that your LS400 is a 1998. Check all the bulbs for a bad filement or corroded base. If the bulbs have never been changed you might find the glass of the bulbs blackened and you might consider replacing all of them.

The tail light bulbs in the trunk lid are behind trim flaps you will see when you open the trunk lid -- should be obvious how to change them or at least I found it to be.

The bulbs in the fender mounted tail lights of a 98 LS are changed after removing the lamp assembly from the fender. When the trunk lid is open, you will see the screws holding the lamp assemblies to the car.

I posted a picture of what the high mounted stoplight looks like when removed in this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...placement.html
To remove the high mounted stop light, you lift up the front of the stop light assembly until the plastic red tabs clear the hat shelf. Be careful to not break the tabs.
