Default Intermittent vibration worsens while braking - sometimes

hello everyone, 92 LS400 here.

I have an intermittent but severe shake that seems to come from the front of the car. Occurs around 50-60 infrequently, and becomes much worse when brakes are applied. But I get no pulsation at the brake pedal. Pretty substantial vibration in steering wheel too.

Car has newer upper control arms and lower ball joints. I also might have a bushing issue as I hear a clunk/pop on moderate dips/bumps in the front right which is further aggravated by passenger load.

Car also has newer PS rack. And H&R sport springs (probably 1" lower), and car rides on 18" wheels.

Except for the intermittent vibration and bump clunk, the car rides perfectly.

Thanks for any advice,

Benjamin

check your tie rod ends for the vibration issue. as for the clunk on bumps. sounds like something is hitting. did you install the springs? or a shop? id check for loose bolts etc...

I have the same issue. I just instslled brand new tires an hour ago--not for that reason--and amazingly the problem seems to have evaporated into thin air! How could new tires do that? Unless the other rims were torqued improperly...or uneven tire wear was magnifying a worn bushing problem. It no longer pulls to the right either! So new tires greatly helped as odd as that is. And I do mean GREATLY!

vibration at speed can be tires that are out of balance, he said it gets worse when braking. thats why i said check tie rod ends. tires out of balance shouldnt cause worse vibrations when braking.

Greetings,

Had the car jacked up for transmission svc and found a worn outer tie rod end on the left side... Replaced the right side about two years ago. I will have the replacement on Tuesday and hopefully it resolves the issue!

Enotil: what kind of issues did you have before replacing your bushings? What bushings did you replace?

rear trailing arms and front bushings on lower/upper control arms...and not to mention replaced my shocks...the problem didn't go away except the clunking noise.

whenever i used to brake thats when the car starts to shake...specially when its slightly pressed. the weird part was when i pressed a little bit harder. thats when the problem goes away.

yup check your pads and rotors man...thats how i got rid of the problem permanently

Tie rods are recomended to be changed together. (L and R) (90% of mechanics will tell you they have to be done on both sides for the alignment. I usually do inner and outer both sides when I do mine on any car. But I know what it's like to not want to spend the extra cash if ya don't have to.
