Just popped in here yesterday looking for some information on stereos. I'm pretty active over on Bimmerforums (username e34nication... apparently CL doesn't allow usernames that long) and just recently bought my Mom's Lexus LS400 that she purchased new in 1992. She bought a newer "family/road trip" car so the LS was up for grabs. It's a 93 w/ 235k miles but drives like it's brand new... I actually drove this car to prom when I was 16 (now nearly 30) which is interesting. The stereo unfortunately is not working (why I popped in) and it was diagnosed as a head unit gone bad so that is priority 1. The cruise control is inoperable as well so that'll be fixed and eventually I'll probably get some new skins put on the front seats/center console/steering wheel. All and all it is a fantastic car and radio/cc issues aside the only thing that has ever been an "issue" is the powersteering which has been completely gone over and fixed recently.

Here are a couple of awful cell phone pics... looks like any other stock 93:

Here are a couple pics of my Bimmer:

Welcome to CL. Nice "stock" car, no autocross in this one. Leave that to the Bimmer, these cars are too nice for that. It must have been nice pulling up in a Lexus at your prom. As long as you take care of it it will last ya many more years. At least you know the full history on the car seeing how it was your mom's car.

Definitely have the full 18 years of history on this one... This car would be absolutely miserable for autocross! It's a good cruiser but it's certainly not a performance vehicle.

I was in your situation with a bad head unit of the LS. I ended up putting an aftermarket headunit replacement and re-wiring everything. I also put in some quality speakers, sub, and amplifiers. The new system makes driving the LS more enjoyable.

I'm thinking of going with a nice double din unit with blue tooth, Sirius and a small monitor mainly because the price has come down so much and I think it will look best. I already put Boston acoustics splits in this car for my mom a few years back. Probably do something with the sub and leave the rears stock. What hu did you go with?

oooeeeeeeee, looks freakin SICK!

Wish I went the double-DIN route...on to the next one!

Isn't it awesome getting a family owned lex? I purchased mine from my grandfather who bought my 90, when it first came out, and he had a binder of ALL the service records ever, always dealer serviced and such, the best part was the replaced cracked windshield and brand new a/c unit months before I picked it up, saved me SO much, woo

best part...original window sticker, winnn

It's definitely nice to know the car has been taken care of.

Dropped it off today to get the coolant temp sensor swapped out. I've been getting 13-14mpg in the city not taking the car over 3k rpm's and 18mpg on the highway with the same light foot... Also having them check the serpentines/pulleys/tensioners since theres a little squeak.
