as many of you know, i have sc 430 wheels for my 2000 ls. i have been told i need 15mm spacers for the calipers to clear. so if i get 15mm spacers can i get slip on ones without having to get longer studs? or do i need adapters with the studs in them? thanks
You won't be able to use slip-ons that are that thick (max 5mm or so) with standard studs. you'll have to replace the studs with longer units or go for bolt-on spacers. I'd recommend the latter, and suggest that you use hubcentric rings with them to help reduce the chance of vibration.
again, you can only use bolt-on type wheel spacers (aka adapters) if the wheels have the spaces in the back for the original studs to poke in to.
and i wouldn't touch those ebay spacers, stick to reputable brands when using studs. i'd rather have Ichibas over those. project kic's and H&R are the better branded ones but if you're not running big heavy wheels then the ichibas will do you fine.
20mm thick spacers are usually thick enough to let the car's original studs sit flush beneath their outer face. if you use open topped nuts, you shouldn't have any dramas whether your wheels have cutouts or not.
I've used KIC's before on my AE86 and I'll agree, they are top quality.
yes, with 20mm problems with standard studs are unlikely PROVIDED that flush-type nuts are used to secure the spacer to the hub. with 15mm though, interference is likely on a flat-disk'd wheel.
15mm is only possible when replacing the studs. A bolt on deal has to be 20mm or up to counter sink the nuts to hide them . As the sc wheels will bind against the hub as PD said and wobble off unless you crank them down real good so the original stud pushes through the wheel hub in between the bolts .
