Some years ago, as my 1990 began to feel more decrepit, I started to open my door by pulling on the handle just enough to unlatch the door and then pulling the door open from the top edge instead of pulling it open with the handle. I’ve also been known to use the PAX side to lock or unlock the car. Saves wear and tear on the driver side lock cylinder. Anything to keep the old girl working.

It is a series of decisions like the above that make the car "worth so little." A fully functional Lexus LS400 is worth so much more, but it takes your investment in the little things. When I see a four year-old whooptydoo Nissan Altima (that cost four times as much as my used LS400 ) with rusted out floorpans and a cheesy interior, I cannot imagine why I would *not* spend 33% of a single car payment on getting into a fine luxurious automobile using a functional door handle.

My $3,995.00 POS Lexus has enjoyed a sum total of $1,200.00 of maintenance and repairs in the past two years and ten months and 30,000 flawless miles. It gets the new door handle if it should need one. . .

I concur...people place value on things not valuable at all and tend to underestimae things that are infinitely valuable...say a vehicle that will function for half a million miles if one merely puts in some love. Or one can make huge car payments on a pile of junk instead, and high insurance premium payments to boot.

Thanks, and I did get a used one from a salvage yard that was the same color and required no painting, if fact I got the handle and lock assembly for $10 at a yard south of Dallas. I almost had a runaway.... and they pulled it for me, while I watched, that helped a lot.
No more troubles like that with my 99. here is a photo.

Default Factory Quit Making Door Handles

Just went to order drive side door handle for my 96 LS400 part number 69220-50020-G3 and the dealer told me, "they do not make them anymore". Has anybody heard of NOS for Lexus parts. Could not find drive side handle on Ebay in any color. This going to be a problem for us if we cannot get some fix.

Your dealer is full of it... look right here: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...S400-1995.html

It looks available and shouldn't be a problem to get. About $130.

Good luck, sounds like they are particularly unhelpful.
