mrwinkle, thx so much for the response. No, at the time it was not blowing cold air. Yet after turning it on and off a few times it did so I don;t think it's the compressor in my 98/77k miles?
My AC is blowing cold and I have replaced the relay and the belt but randomly the AC will stop blowing cold and the light will start blinking pushing the button causes it to blow cold again there are no error codes on the AC diagnostic. What is the cause?
Blinking light means low refrigerant pressure, and compressor not running to prevent damage. Sometimes the refrigerant pressure sensor that's in the compressor goes bad and reads low/no refrigerant, even when refrigerant pressure is good. If you are 100% sure the refrigerant pressure is good and it's the pressure sensor that's bad, you can override that sensor failsafe as a temporary measure until you replace the compressor. As far as I know, there's no well known source or method to replace only the pressure sensor on the compressor. The entire compressor has to be replaced. Of course you can then pawn off the basically good compressor to someone who drives a beater or use it for parts.
I've been looking in to a flashing A/C light on a 1996 quite a bit lately. *I think* that the light blinks anytime the compressor spin speed is not what the ECU expects. *I think* the two wires that go in to the back of the compressor measure the speed for this. In two cases recently two different compressors had torn rubber bushings in the compressor clutch that would intermittently be able to spin the compressor and cause the A/C to work intermittently.
I wonder how many compressors have been evacuated, replaced and recharged because of simply torn rubber in the compressor clutch. You can change the clutch with 10mm ratchet without even jacking the car up.
