Default Replace Steering Wheel

1997 LS400

My leather steering wheel is starting to bubble up and peel, and it's getting to the point where it's beyond repair.

Does anyone have a SAFE procedure for removing the steering wheel, transplanting the airbag to another steering wheel, and then reinstalling it?

There is a steering wheel (no airbag) in fantastic shape on eBay that I want to buy.

Some shops I've called say they won't touch the airbag and that I'd have to take it to the dealer.

I see. So it should be very straightforward then?

I'm just a little bit afraid of the airbag.

I'll just have my friend do the work while I watch.

Thanks for your help, BTW!

And don't bid on the steering wheel! I'm trying to get it for $50!

yeah, the airbag system won't just blow up in your face when being removal, technically. But just to be safe, when removing those, disconnect your battery's ground. That will ensure no problem whatsoever. Do the same when you put the airbag back in.
