Default 98 LS400 Amplifier

I just found out that my car needs an amplifier. The right side is not working (distorted sound) the left side and sub are working just fine. My question is

1. Do I go aftermarket ? as the tech recommends...4 channel amp $400
2. Do I try to find a used factory amp at a junk yard... if so what models /years ect.. do I need to know? nackamichi system.
3. Bend over K-Y needed, and call the dealer?

first off, what makes you so sure that it iisnt the speaker that's just gone dead? its rare in my experience to see just one speaker channel fail...

or am i misunderstanding you and that BOTH speakers on one side aren't giving you any sound? (you played around with the fade/balance to narrow down which channels were dead right??)

if it is the amp, you'll need one for a 98-00, specific for your nakamichi or non-nak system (the nak/non-nak amps are NOT interchangeable.), a junk/salvage yard, and/or ebay should be your best/cheapest bet.

ok there is very little sound(badly distorted) from all speakers on right side, left side crystal clear. The tech pulled the wires from the amp and checked them ... He said the amp was bad. He used a tester... I don't know what he was doing though... and I do trust that he knew what he was doing. It is a Nak system, does the amp have to specifically come from a LS series? I do know it has to be 98-00

Get the part number for that amp and I'll check on my 98 to see if it's the same. Not really sure if i got the Nak system or not, lol. Parked it for a long time after driving for a few days. So, not too familiar with it. Didn't care much because I was planning on replacing the whole sound system with aftermarket. So, if yours is the same as mine, I'll let you have it for a reasonable price.

The right channel of the Nakamichi in my 00 LS had low volume for a several months before the right channel went completely dead. I thought it was the amp until I tested my amp in a friend's 99 LS. The problem turned out to be a loose connection at the balance control in the head unit. The Florida company that resoldered the balance control back in early 2008 no longer works on Nakamichi due to lack of parts availability. I think they charged me only $25 for the fix.
