while im driving and coming to a stop when i step on the BRAKE the letter P R N D 2 L lights up in the dashboard.I also notice when im just parked and i step on the BRAKE i here a small knock where the shifter is..this problem is really bugging me because i hate seeing the R light up everytime i brake on the road.someone help me its a real EYE SORE

It sounds like my favorite problem with the gen 1 LS400 -- broken wires in the drivers side trunk hinge. The exact same thing happened to my 90 LS I used to have. I spliced new sections of wires into the broken trunk hinge wires and the problem was fixed.

Do a search -- you'll find lots of threads on this problem.
