Default fixed most of the problem....

I had the following condition in my 1991 LS400, which has been previously discussed on this forum: when brake pedal is depressed, the R light (for Reverse) on the instrument cluster turns on, even though I'm not backing up. So I found a wire disconnected in the left trunk hinge, took off some of the insulation from the wire and re-connected it. Then put some electric tape on and the R light doesn't turn on any more upon braking. Also, the transmission shifts the way it's supposed to. BUT, my burnt-stoplight warning light is still on, and I checked my stoplights by having someone depress brake pedal and me standing in back of car and watching. What happend was that the outer braker lights (ones attached to the rear fender) work fine, but the two inner ones (ones attached to trunk door and move with it) are out. So I still believe the problem is somehow related to this whole scenario. What's the fix??
Thanks guys...

check the sockets in the taillamp housings. The contacts at the base of the socket sometimes get burned out and the bulb wont connect with the socket base.

I had a similar problem on my 93 except the outer taillights were the ones not working. Dealer said it was some sort of sensor of electrical part in the harness, cost $$$$$$, so I never got it fixed and sold the car.

Hi Azari,

All light have to light up when braking or else you will have the burnt-stoplight warning light on. This happened to me just a few days ago, one of the centers was out during braking and the warning light came on, once I replaced the center bulb, the warning light shut off end of problem.
