I can drive my vehicle with no problem. The interior lights, dash, radio, heater, etc. will not turn on. Also, my exterior lights, trunk, hood, etc. will not open. I noticed that the hazard lights work, but nothing else electrical work.

I replaced the alternator and I was told it was an electrical problem that is causing the alternator to drain.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

 

It sounds like you have a bad body ground somewhere, Get out a flashlight and start looking at any straps that go to the body. Something is preventing a path back to the battery IMO..

 

have you recently replaced lights on the vehicle. like LED's or something aftermarket.

any recent activities that may trigger this? anything, you never know with electricals.

sounds like fuses off the back. pull out fuses in the small fuse box inside.

 

First things first,, start checking fuses. Sounds like you have a few that are no good. Most of the ones, for the components that you mentioned are located under the dash on the drivers side. As far as the alternator/battery drain,,is your PS leaking? If so, you do know that the reservior sits directly over the alternator and will drip down into it. Also, go under the hood and check the alternator fuse as well, it may just need to be replaced. Loose grounds is another area to have a look at.

 

Replace the 120amp fuse under the hood..its hard to get out but thats your problem...It will drain your battery if you dont replace that fuse. Its on the driver side in a small box. There is a 8mm bolt i think you need to undo and then a clip on one side that needs to be popped out...I just pulled the darn thing up till it gave and un did the 2 8mm bolts that hold the fuse in place...Im sure this is your problem.

 

I have the same problem with my 90 ls 400, but autozone told me to hook up the battery the wrong way. everything in the car worked before i hooked the new one now nothing electrical works, all fuses are good. i know the altenator is bad but if that doesnt work by fxing it what could be the problem then?
can someone help?

Compare the symptoms, if they match you need a relay, P/N 90987-02008. I accidentally bought 2... so I have a spare if you need one... IF they don't match check fuse #13

 

ok i found the 120 A fuse for my altenator and it was busted, now i just need to find out where the altenator it self is located, can anybody tell me where it is?

where would i go to buy a 120 Amp fuse at?
i called autozone and they told me that they dont carry those size fuses.

 

Absolute bull. i JUST bought one from them in January in my state (Maryland). You may have to take it in to them and show them what you need. Costed about $6.

It's a generic, universal part, so it may not be listed in their computers at all. Shold be on the sales floor hanging with all of the other fuses and such. Remove your old one and take in for reference. Should be lite/lime green in color.

 

ive been trying to take out the old one but it doesnt want to come out, do i take the whole block off?
ive tried to use some needle nose to try to pull it it out, but all it does is chip the clear casing on the top. i dont want to pull real hard because my whole fus box moves with the fuse.
how would go about pulling it up?

 

Yes the fuse is bolted on both the sides of the fuse box and the box has to be taken out to unbolt the sides with thick wires on both sides. There is no way to remove it without taking the box out. It is usually held with either 8 mm or 10 mm bolt and they itself will be very hard to open as this fuses takes a lot of current and it usually lasts the life of the car and over time the nuts became rock hard. But a T socket will help you remove it with no issues. At least it is the same for multiple Toyota vehicles and I doubt it will be different on the LS.
