they make kits for the SC400 so maybe that adapter plate will also work with the LS4 trannys.

go search. nothing will bolt on. you need to use an adapter plate and a hydraulic throw-out. some stuff can be bought but a good bit will be custom, incl. the driveshaft and trans mounts.

There are some guys in NZ or AU that make an adapter for an R154 trans that should work.

For a while I had the idea of installing a 1UZFE into a Locost w/ the R154. And then when I picked up a project Capri, I learned that someone actually stuck the same combo right in it. So, it IS possible. Expensive though!

Engine or trans swapping has never been easy in my experience.

But....modding a car comes in many flavors. Bolt-on, custom-fabrication, etc. It really depends on how experienced you are with doing these types of customizations, and/or how big your pockets are to have it done.

Yeah well said. I think it depends on your budget. Not much is available for our cars. You may be the first to do it. Some guys here have done awesome one offs but they all required custom fabrication.

5 speed ls400s has it been done before ?!?!?

----------------------

Yes, a company named Toyota installed 5-speed automatic transmissions into all Lexus LS400's produced in the 1998 through 2000 model years. I've got one.

If complete gen 1 LS400 drivetrains can be stuffed into Toyota Corollas and Cressidas by those wacky Australians, surely a 5-speed manual transmission could be hung off the back of an LS400 engine. mrvipman, just do it and stop messing around.

Seriously, the first thing I thought about when I drove one of the first 5-speed manual transmission SC300's in 1991 was how much fun it would have been had the 1990 LS400 I had bought two years earlier had come with that drivetrain. I was wishing I had an 5-speed manual "LS300".

I suspect it would be relatively easy to drop an SC300 engine and 5-speed manual into a gen 1 LS400. Crap, if one of my friends could drop a V8 into a Morris Minor back in the mid-60's, anything is possible.

if anyone does this let me know because the car would incredibly fun to drive! its already a fun car and the v-8 with a 5speed man. transmission :O
yea... not to mention that the lag off the line w/ the auto trans. would be gone w/ the manual trans. and you would absolutely smoke other cars

lol PD, THAT or a little mod that bypass the dumb smoothness governor in the tranny.

its in the SC3/400 forums, i think under the performance section. just look for "cheap mod" or something.
