Wood trim refinishing/stripping question
Does anyone know what will remove the factory finish on the wood trim pieces? My shift/console surround trim has a few cracks in the clear finish - the wood underneath is fine. I would like to strip off the old finish on just this piece and recoat it with either urethane or similar but I have yet to find anything that will dissolve/strip the factory coating. What is this stuff made of anyway? Normal varnish stripper (I have tried both stypeze and formby's) just sits there and even after extended periods of time just wipes off leaving an unblemished original coat, so it must be something tough which is great if it weren't for the cracking, but makes it difficult to refinsh if you cant get the old stuff off. Has anyone else had any luck removing this finish? Mine is a 94 LS400. Thanks!
