Default Check options using VIN number

There has to be a way or site to check what factory options a car has. I'm looking for somewhere that has the codes that go into a VIN number to help read a VIN number for an LS400 i'm looking at.

I'm not looking for a Carfax rather what options the car came with from the factory or what package it has.

Any help? And yes, I did use the search function.

A VIN number does not contain information about vehicle options. I know from being involved for a number of years in the automated rating of vehicles for insurance purposes. Trust me, insurance companies sure wish the VIN contained this information.

A Lexus dealer might be able to look up a car for you or you could visually inspect the car verifying which options the car has. The option lists for all Lexus cars ever sold in the U.S. are on the Lexus corporate website although there are some errors in the option lists.

For example, here are the specs and options for my 00 LS: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2000/2000LSspecs.pdf

Over type the two model years (i.e. 2000) and the model (LS) in the above URL to see the specs for Lexus cars from 1990 - 2005. You can see the specs for newer cars in the CPO library on http://www.lexus.com

yeah, the public can't really decode the vin for anything meaningful since we already know everything the vin can tell us. you want package info, for that only a lexus dealership/lexus corporate can help you if you MUST use the vin to decode.

Here's the community Lexus VIN decoder. It shows a list of factory options for some US and EU models. The service is free.

If they had a build sheet the vin would reference to that and would show all the factory installed options.

That claims my '97 LS400 is a Corolla or an MR2, from 2005.

Lexus parts department will (read should) request and use your VIN when ordering parts for your vehicle; glass (different tinting to match body color) tilt steering (early 98's had 95-97 mechanism) emissions, or any system that transitioned mid-year.
They can also tell you how your vehicle was optioned.

After all, it is their interest to get it right the first time.

Funny, I can choose from several BMW VIN decoders that include the option list. Why can't I do the same for Lexus?

Because Lexus/Toyota don't decode the trim levels int eh VIN, if anything you would need to decode the trim tag on the driver's door, and that information isn't publicly released.

As a "back from the dead" thread - I built a tool that can give JSON response formats to decode the VINs of almost any 2006+ Lexus. It works on Desktop only, but try it here!

Not bad. Even though my '91 is a little earlier than the 2006+ this is supposed to work for, it took my VIN and told me the only option I had was floor mats. As far as I know, per the very short list of official things Lexus lists as options for that year, my car has no options. But it did come with floor mats, so I'll say this is correct.

On the other hand, I tried that community VIN decoder listed by masterfx, and it says I have a very rare LS400, with a 3.0L inline 6 engine. I'd take it though, because it also says the horsepower is 5600.

Resurrecting an old thread here. This tool no longer works for Lexus.
Actually, the whole page was move to some Carvana.com website which does not support Lexus or Toyota.

Any equivalent VIN-to-Window sticker tool available elsewhere for Lexus??

Thanks

Build date 5/15. Number 3629. If the highest numbers are 7500 or so then they build over half the total existing RC Fs in the first model year?
