Default 98 LS front brakes/rotors

I've decided to fix some of the nagging issues with my 400 as opposed to trading it off. I've searched the forums to no avail.

First thing is a left front wheel bearing. The bearing and seal are purchased and I can handle that job.

The next thing is the brake pulsation I have. I replaced the pads a year ago or so and there is still plenty of material there. But, I don't think I performed the job correctly. In hindsight, I should have had the rotors turned at the same time. So, I will do the job again.

What is the rotor min thickness (again it is the fronts, 98 LS)?

I'll replace the rotors (Brembo, plain) if I have to but I rather turn them if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Drifter.

From what I've seen on here, it appears TireRack is the best price for Bembo blanks. Anyone have any better price somewhere else? I've got a friend mechanic that says in the last couple years, he's had good luck with the cheap ones from Autozone. Anyone here tried those? Any thoughts?

i would suggest trying to re-seat your brake pads before you go turning your rotors. A lot of rotors do not behave well to being turned, my landcruiser is a example. When you turn those rotors, they will be warped within 5,000 miles almost every time.

Its important to seat new pads when you put them on.

Many times material builds up on the rotors from heat cycling. Re-seating the pads removes this material for a smooth surface.

you have it backwards, if you don't bed the pads/rotors in properly when both are fresh, the pad will leave deposits on the rotor ("warping" it).

when you turn the rotor you are supposed to replace the pads. If you replace just pads, you need to at least scuff up the rotor with a scotchbrite pad to roughen it up and give it some bite to bed the rotor in.

along the edge, it's likely that its rusted over a bit so take a wire brush to the edge of the rotor.

I've been using the Brembo blanks (from Tirerack) and stock pads for the last several months without issue.

No attempt to hijack here... but, if Akebono pads and Brembo rotors are replaced together on the same 98 LS400, is it necessary to bed them?

yes you still need to bed new pads to any rotor.

Would this same answer apply if the pads are ceramic? I think I saw on here someplace that ceramics didn't require the bedding process.
