My friend had decided to change spark plugs himself on his 2000 LS 400 and now has difficulty with completely removing them. If anybody has done it, can you please share the information about needed tools? Any help will be appreciated.
Yeah spark plug socket with the rubber insert and a 6" extension is definitely necessary when I did mine. The spark plug socket grabs the plug in the rubber so that you can get it out.
Aluminum block/heads or not it still gets really hot. Atleast you don't have wires like I do on my 95!
Also most plug manufacturers say to not lube the threads and torque values are small (less than 20 ft. lbs) as I recall on my Denso's.
Thank You All for great help. The only question remains is how to remove the black rubber part which sits on top/around of the spark plug and prohibits insertion of any tools to remove it. My friend does have all the tools but can not use it due to the new design obstacle.

How did it go? All done? I have a 99 ls...Did you use Denso SK20R11 spark plugs? The dealership has them for $12 and I've found some on-line for $10...I didn't realize that I had sooo much work to do on my baby... When doing the timing belt, one place said they'd put on the spark plugs for no extra charge...
