Cool Intermitten Horn

Horn is intermittent. Turning ignition key on from off will sometimes make it work. I suspect dirty contacts in steering wheel. I was told I need a new airbag assembly ($1100) to correct this. Can't the contacts be cleaned first and then see if that corrects it? I would certainly think the fix would be cheaper then $1100.

if the clockspring is bad then yes, replacing it may be your only option.

id try to find a used clockspring first tho.

Mine does the same thing. I've assumed that something became slightly loose due to the telescopic wheel moving back and forth every time you get in and out of the car. It works most of the time anyway so no big deal to me.

The air bag assembly sounds like a rediculous thing to replace to fix a HORN problem. Whatever.

You are all assuming it's the steering wheel that's the problem. Probably right but what about the horn itself. The horn needs to be mounted on bright metal for a good earth. I've had same problem but not on a Lexus.

Definitely in the steering wheel. Sometimes no signal to the horn relay and that comes form a faulty horn pad. Biggest problem is the differing opinons I get from the "Professionals". Some Lexus dealers say the whole airbag needs replacing while others say just the Clock Spring. Who is right?
