It's probably the oil pick up. DO NOT START THE ENGINE WITHOUT OIL IN IT!!!!!
Good luck getting it fixed and congrats on the purchase.

it might be the hose for your power steering to the last time i remember. its a little pipe that wraps around the oil pan.

I hope the hood sitting up like that is just that you popped the hood?
I am amazed the engine didn't drop after losing that brace. You may wanna check engine mounts to make sure you did not tear them or bend the mounting lugs.

Ewen makes great points. Check your motor mounts, and other items in and around (below) the engine for strain due to the crossmember being damaged/missing.

I also noticed the left side of your hood isn't in line with the body. It does look like the hood is popped though. .. Is there some damage to the body from impact that is causing this misalignment? Or is this just the shifting of the hood when popped but not open. (I'm sure that is all it is).

Overall, as long as she's sound under the hood (engine wise).. You got one heck of a deal. Paint looks good.. can't really tell anything else.

You really should a jack or something to help support the engine.
