Default Engine Problem

I have a "94" lexus and I have this problem where the engine doens't want to stay on. It just started happening recently but when I start it and if it stays started I put it in drive and when I step on the gas it will rev up and then cut off. If it does stay on it feels like when I step on the gas that the engine isn't getting air or something. I'm getting the rpms but the speed doesn't match up to them. It's like the engine is drowning or something. On the dash I have the check engine light on and the TRAC light on. Can anyone give me some advice on what it is?

I'm not sure what the status of the air filter is. Could you briefly explain the function of it. I dropped the car off to the service shop so maybe I can tell them to check it. I originally dropped it off at the dealer and they ran some computer test and couldn't find anything. They were trying to get the car to duplicate the problem but then it was riding fine. It's like the engine is sputtering or something.

Do a tune up and double check the ISC.
