Default Factory NAV question

Is there any type of way I could swap factory navigation systems out, or should I just buy an aftermarket on in place of the factory one? Im kinda not feeling the whole gooby-lookin fat-tom-tom on my dash or window.

Where would you guys suggest putting a tom tom or garmin?

buy the center console and climate control from a non-nav LS, then buy a 2din dash kit (CALL METRA for this) and get an AVIC D3 or Z1`

Anyone know any more info about retro fitting an OEM nav into a NON OEM nav car? Reason I ask is because I'm about to buy an OEM navigation system (It is actually just the LCD screen, radio, hardware, and a special wire harness that supposed to be custome made so it will all be plug and play. The nav part itself wont work since I'm in Hawaii and no maps, but supposedly the LCD screen will control and display everything else like the AC, radio and such.

How much should I be paying for something like this? The only think I know is it has the complete LCD screen and radio so it will just bolt right in, plus what looks like the brain ECU unit, and a bunch of wire harnesses. I might pick it up this weeked. I mostly want to see if it will all work. If it does work, possibly I might buy a Viastech AUX A/V unit to work with the monitor.

definitely not worth it as it is an EXTREMELY EXTENSIVE MODIFICATION.

ask any 2GS guy about retro-ing OEM nav. and you'l see what im talking about.

additionally, last i checked Vaistech doesnt make a damned thing for pre 01 Lexus vehicles.

Hmm, I guess I'll back out of the deal than. I really have no major desire to do it, I just was curious to see if I could get it to work. My curiousity is not that great though

One guy with a 98 GS swithced over his navi into a Gen 4, using a navi unit from a 01+GS, with a navi ECU from a 2004 LS.

Now that was hell of an upgrade. Too bad it wont work with the LS... althought someone was able to adapt a gen2/3 ECU to the 98-00 navi systems, but it didint look good at all.

i don't see a point in doing that, the HD OEM Nav sucks! you'll feel the same way after you use the oem nav for awhile
