Lightbulb climate control light

I have a first generation Lexus LS400, just 3 months ago i changed the timing belt and water pump and a bunch of other things and when i drove out couple of days later, i notice the light on the climate control isn't working and also the light on the gear shifter (PRND2L). Anyway, i went back to the same machanic (not the dealer service) and they said they had notihing to do with it. So i though after spending nearly $2500.00 i want to get it fixed so i went to the dealership service and they want almost $500.00 for both places, i thought it was too expensive. Does anyone know how to change the light bulbs on both climate control and gear shifter?? Thanks

I had the same problem on my '93 LS. I noticed that the left side of the display was out. After a while of not knowing quite what to do I took the only step an Irishman can take. I had a beer and gave it a good wack. The light came back on and hasn't failed since!

Default backlight problems

I'm familar with this problem, peter who's in this forum helped me out here's the info he gave me, and I went to lexus bought the bulbs for 7 bucks each (expensive).

From what I got from your e-mail, some of your backlight bulbs went out. Is so, it is an easy fix. You have 2 options. First one is to smach the unit pretty hard for the bulbs to gegain the contact (lexus tech showed me this one). the other thing you can do is to buy the bulbs from the dealership, take the a/c temp control unit apart and replace the bulbs that went bad. This is a very easy procedure since bulbs are just plug and play, you don't have to weld anything. Follow this instruction to take out your A/C unit http://www.cureline.net/lex/audio/ho...io_removal.htm and then take it apart. You will see the bulbs you need to swap as soon as you open up the unit.

If it is burned out these cats can fix it for $295. I got mine fixed on my 93 and it looks brand new:

LMAO, that quote shows all my spelling abilities at their best

Anyway, what SpxChrome is talking about is faded out LCD temperature/time display. This is not the same as burned out bulbs. Don't send your unit to Mikado just to fix your 7 dollar problem for $295.

As far as faded LCD screens go; I will soon post the way to fix that problem for $150 or less. Just want to do mine first and see how well it goes.

If your looking for the backlit bulbs for the climate control display for 90-94 LS400 I have 6 left. (It only takes 3) I bought a bunch to fix my backlit, but then my lcd screen turned black and I ended up getting a new climate control unit. If anyone is interested let me know.

I just replaced my A/C display with a rebuilt one from MIKADO ENGINEERING. It is just like factory new, and I can't stop looking at it! They sent me a rebuilt unit, and charged me 100.00 core deposit. After I sent the core in, they promply refunded the deposit! This is much cheaper than a new unit, and the only way to go.
