check engine light, check vsc warning '99
I have a 1999 LS400. The check engine light and check vsc display came on a week ago and the engine was stumbling and misfiring on startup. I shut it down and waited a few minutes, restarted and everthing was fine. Now, a week later, its doing the same thing and won't reset even after removing the battery cable to reset the ECU. Now I went for a short ride and noticed the check engine light was flashing. I put in a tank of regular fuel last week for the first time as the station was out of premium. Could this cause the problem? I don't want to do any damage. Any suggestions?

I had some similar problems with my '98 with the VSC, and strangly enough my battery was going bad. Changed out the battery and had no more problems. And, I had a "bad tank of gas" once and it made my check engine light came on with a O2 sensor code. I ran through the gas, filled up with "super", had the system "reset" and had no more problems with that...

I had the check engine light come on in my Civic and the check VSC come on in my 99 LS 400. Both problems were solved by putting new batteries in the vehicles. The Lexus was getting hard to start additionally. We accidentally put regular unleaded in the Lexus and it ran fine. This was a few tanks ago, and we have subsequently used the premium.
