What happens when rotors go bad?
My braking feels rough - kind of a vibration that feels like the same frequency as the wheels are spinning. Only bad when hard stopping from speed, around 50-70 mph.
I've never had bad rotors before, is this a typical effect? The pads are good. The rotors are original at 170K miles and nearly at their wear limit.
THX!

ps Whats a decent make of rotors? Vented or not?

easy way to tell which rotors are warped:
vibration felt primarily through steering wheel = Warped Front rotors
vibration felt through floor and seat = Warped Rear rotors
and good oem replacement is Brembo, which is cheaply available on www.tirerack.com

original rotors at 170K. r u the original owner ? that's quite a lot of mileage from the rotors. u can buy original toyota or just go to tirerack.com and get brembo. they're half the price and equally good as oem.

It sounds like the car has been driven mostly highway miles or they were replaced earlier and the OP does not remember.
