winterizing the LS
well its been cold for months up here, it was -18F below earlier today 
the high should be about 0F but its only -4F right now
does any one know where to order an engine block heater for a 92 LS? no one up here has one
so i have done what i can to it so far, ive changed most of the fluids to winter weight,put cardboard in front of the radiator, ive installed a battery heater,oil pan heater and a transmission heater,I just need that engine block heater. if i have to i might try to install a universal purculater heater.

A block heater for the LS430 is currently shown on the Lexus Canada website -- its installed price is $232 (Canadian). It is quite possible that the same one fits the gen 1 LS400.
I remember verifying that a block heater was available from Lexus when I purchased my first LS in 1990. I was switching from a Mercedes that had a block heater and I really liked having instant heat when I drove out of the garage on cold winter days. But the LS engine warmed up more quickly than the Mercedes so I didn't buy a block heater for the LS.
Try emailing Paul at info@discountlexusparts.com in Victoria, BC (Metro Toyota/Lexus) to see if he can supply a block heater. Metro has an export license, can ship to the U.S. and provides excellent service.

'95-'97 Seat heater elements needed
Speaking of seat heates and winterizing...
Does anyone have an affordable source for 2nd gen LS400 heating elements? My dealer wants $500 for the parts for both front seats.

If you park outside you may consider a remote start--it's been -20F several times in the winter here (but not as cold continually as where you are!), and remote start fires right up and gets the heat and defrost going by the time I get outside.
If your seat heaters do not seem like they are functioning it is a charging issue not eh elements. Change all battery related cables and then the alternator if it persists.

Since you are using amsoil your cold start ups will be a lot easier on your engine it will flow down to around 45to 60 below 0, allowing your engine to get oil right now. Amsoil also makes synthetic oil for the transmission that can be used in both the transmission and power steering I would check with amsoil to see if they make the correct rearend oil for your lexus this is a big help in cold weather.You can now buy amsoil products direct from amsoil and have them shipped to your door. Go to www.amsoil.com.

I disagree. It's probably the elements. They can stop working over time from stress from sitting on them for so many years. For example, my driver's seat heater barely works, but the passenger seat one keeps its occupant nice and toasty.
