re: steering wheel
i removed the airbag (yellow connector) on my 1st gen LS and was checking out the steering wheel wiring harness. some of the wiring goes to the horn contact switch, another part goes to the right side of the steering wheel for the cruise control lever, and another connect goes to the left side (highlighted in red box). there is nothing connected to it, my guess it is for the factory phone option controls. can anybody verify what it's for?

I do believe that is for the factory installed phone options. I have it in my 92 LS (consequently it still works, I just havent activated it). On the left side of your steering wheel, if you have the factory phone, on the underside of the wheel (right between the middle spokes for placement) there would be a little control module with the numbers 1,2 and 3 on it. This little control module allowed you to do hands free calling in the car (you had to reach into the center console to turn the phone on first and leave it on) of up to only (I think) 3 stored numbers. It also automatically muted the radio, and activated the hands free speaker in the car. You could answer as many calls that came in, but could only dial out 3 numbers with this module. It really was ahead of itself for the time. Most 1st gens which had the phone option could be identified by the permanent, old school phone antenna mounted on the top in the middle of the rear windshield.
