I am trying to replace some bulbs in my rear tail light. I opened up the trunk but it look like a "wham, bam, thank you m'aam" type of job.. before i start (a i will probably break something), can someone give me help?
The bulbs that are inside the tail lights that are part of the trunk lid can be accessed through openings on the interior of the trunk lid. These bulbs are very easy to replace.
To replace the outer bulbs, you have to remove the tail light assembly. First, remove the plastic trim along the top of the trunk lining. Then pull the trunk liner away from the tail light assembly. This will give you access to the nuts that hold the tail light assembly in place. A deep well socket will be helpful. I don't remember the size of the nuts and exactly how many there are.
After the nuts are removed, pull out on the tail light assembly. It can be difficult to remove because there is an alignment guide which has a very tight fit. Just keep pulling on it. After you separate the assembly a few inches from the car body, you can easily access the bulbs.
You sound like me...I'm **** as hell, I check...then re-check...then check once more before I close it...and I still usually forget to reinstall those damn black rubber things!!!
you need to remove the single Philips head screw holding the bulb housing to the outer lens.
you don't need to unplug the wiring. there is enough slack to get the housing to slide out and hang there while you pull out the bulb.
