So that we don't hijack the wheel thread.

I've been noticing more cleared headlights in the mags the past couple months. It's not listed yet: http://www.i-cs.co.jp/hilltop/menu.htm

Looks like you give them yours for the polishing then you get it back. 25,000 Yen which in straight conversion is $250. They have a disclaimer about buffing marks that may still be visible.

Alternately people in the lapidary trade here could do this. Of course, you are modifying a lighting devcie so the VC guidelines would classify this as an "off road" part.

i always thought hilltop changed the lens to plastic, not grinding down the glass lens

Anything for the first gens? Although I think clear headlights would look kind of strange on the first gen. But its worth it for the light output.

Yeah I remember reading that thread way back in the day. $800 is too much. I'm going to do some more investigation into seeing if the lens can be made with plastic by some company around here.

Default cleared headlamps fopr the LS gen 1

Hey Guys

Someone told me that the 1991-1993 JDM Toyota Crown Royal headlamps will fit the LS400 gen 1 perfectly. Apparently these headlamps are crystal so no stuffing around with lenses and legailities.

May need someone in Japan or the dismantling business to do a side by side comparison.

Cheers
Pat

RA40 I think you have the wrong info.....widebodyls has a gen1 LS, he paid like $1200. He also said that it does not look right the cleared out lights on the gen1. I also have not seen any toyota crowns that are crystal clear that would even come close to fitting the gen1 or 2, infact from what I'veseen of the crown(I just came back from Japan a couple weeks ago) the head lights are bigger, flatter, and more square then the LS.

Sonbum1...not my info.

The lenses I'm discussing are UCF 20 ~MC and shown on page 241 of the April 2006 VIP Style, with reference to Hilltop. Whether of not a cleared lens with a 150 or ??? housing works, I dunno. It does open up possibilities.

I've been concentrating so much just on the lenses, the possibility of integrating a diffrent housing escaped me. Since the backside is a composite, hacking this would not be difficult for the headlight modders. hmmmm.... Weird cause the GS, SC had clear lenses which is conductive for light mods. Why this model got a beveled glass lens is

Sonbum1 -Nur-ries. (No worries)

It's too bad the parts of Japan I visit are out in the countryside...finding a well stocked car shop
is hard. The drive to Fukoka was nice but all the good stuff was on the opposite side of the street. Super Autobacs, Lexus, a Skyline tuner shop. Where in Japan did you visit?
