Did you have all four brake pads changed, or just the front? I know last time I changed mine I just did the front, now it time to change all of them. Are you sure the screeching isn't just low or contaminated power steering fluid?
For the brakes I'd go back to where you got them done and have them re-checked. Need more info - did they replace or turn the rotors or just slap new pads on?
As for the noise when you turn - is it kind of a moaning sound when you just turn the steering wheel (car is not moving)? Or does it make noise when the wheels are turned and the car is rolling?
If it's the first thing - it' probably the steering fluid like tha1027455 said. If it's the latter...well...uh, couldn't tell ya.
Most likely your power steering fluid is low. Our cars are common for having the power steering pump leak. Make sure to keep full until you can seek to have leak fixed.
