Default 4.7L Bottom end?

I was searching for some performance pages online and came across this http://www.lextreme.com/1uzdesktop.htm. If you scroll down to #4 you will notice he swapped in a 4.7L Tundra bottom end into his 1st gen. Has anyone else tried this on here or have any sort of info regarding this swap? Is it a direct bolt in? etc etc etc. This would be a nice performance upgrade without having to resort to boost. 350-375bhp isn't too shabby.

i do believe that Lextreme is the only guy to have done that on these boards. he has his own forum too, juss dig around on www.lextreme.com, they will prolly be better for these types of questions.

Yes the blocks are bolt right in. However, the compression height and the stroke is little different therefore custom pistons will require. Here is my project on this www.lextreme.com/1uzfe.html Using 2uzfe bottom, 1uzfe crank, chevy h beam rods, 4 bolt main conversion, custom pistons, ARP Studs along with girdle......... 4.7L is great for high boost application since its an iron block. However, its also weight 82 lbs. heavier then 1uzfe shortblock.

so..can i just swap in the 4.7 bottom end without any mods..just to get a little bit of power......instead of changing the main caps ....or i have to do exactly what the you guys have done to make it work?? plz help cause i might do that instead of piecing a blower for my car!!

as lextreme said, you can't swap in the 2uz bottom end w/o doing some custom work. i believe (not remotely certain on this) that you need custom pistons and maybe rods AT THE LEAST. if im not mistaken this is because the deck heights are slightly different since the bore on both motors are the same but the stroke is different.

This subject is widely discussed in our site and many pictures about the mix combo. There are couple of reasons why you need custom pistons.

1. 2UZFE crank is 3.31" stroke vs. 1 or 3UZFE is 3.25.
2. The head combustion chamber is slightly different.

The 1uzfe pistons stop at the deck height but the 2UZFE pistons goes few mm beyond the deck. Therefore if you just bolt on the 1uzfe heads, the 2uzfe pistons would hit the 1uzfe combustion chamber and its would not be a good picture. Since you will be getting custom pistons, might as well get upgraded rods with it.

Here are the 1-3uzfe rod from left to right. The last rod is H Beam Rod

1UZFE Vs. 2UZFE Combustion Chamber

This is what i will be using in my SC470TT. Custom Ross Pistons and Lextreme Lightening Rods. The below combo is rated at 1,200 bhp.

Since the Tundra (2UZFE) has 3.31 stroke, but i will be using 1uzfe crank (3.25). This will give me faster rev and greater redline.

The only problem with the 4.7 bottom is about 82 lbs heavier then the stock 1uzfe.
Best of luck with your quest....

The bores and strokes are different between the two engines. Minimum would be custom pistons or modify the heads slightly. See above link on 2uzfe combustion chamber. Main caps are optional. Matter of fact the two bolt main are very strong. I have a friend busted 2 rods and 4 pistons. Broke his iron block and oil pick pan, but the main still surived. See this Destruction of Tundra Block

Single Turbo LS400

Another way to make the 4.7 bottom work would be using a thicker 4.7 head gaskets. However, since 2uzfe and 1uzfe have different head configuration. This might not work best but it will work for N/A purposes.

may need a set of custom headgaskets too depending on the pistons and rods you use.

also, to get the rods to fit im pretty sure that your going to have to grind a bit off the crank, seeeing as the Chevy rods are *slightly* off on the measurements.

Crank doesnt need to be modify. Lightening Rods are bolt on. Gotta use 2uzfe headgaskets.

No it would not work on stock pistons. It will ONLY work with custom pistons. However, it will be bolt on to stock crank.
