well... it is correct absolutely; that's how it works, bottom line. (not trying to be an ***, i just don't know any other way to say that)
now as to your other question, i don't know the answer, as i always use premium if the engine was designed for it. i like to go full throttle to redline pretty regularly and i want all the power that was engineered into the engine.
every vehicle i own requires premium and i use it to maintain maximum performance.
for some people, i guess it is cheapness and not understanding the true effects of preimum vs. non.
since most ferrari's and other super high end cars for the most part never see wot or redline like they were intended to, i suppose some owners would justify that as a reason to use 87.

should lexus owners use premium if they never go wot to redline? that's up to them; as they really don't have to since there will never be any negative side effects at low loads.

it'll be at rest until someone else brings it up hoping they well get our blessing to use 87 in their premium only engine....
i should do a write up on exactly what the octane numbers mean and how it applies to our engines and make it a sticky...

YES YOU SHOULD!!! I hate it when people argue with me to use 87 octane...As if the big glowing neon sign on the guage cluster isn't large enough.

One thing I was suprised about.... My sister's 07 Mustang GT calls for 87 Octane....4.6L 300hp 320ft lbs high performance engine designed for 87 octane??????? I guess it IS just an American car! Hahah

its all about the quality of engineering and compression. try to get 500K miles out of an american engine.

i'm surprised that mustang only needs 87 as well. i thought it was a high compressoin engine. my LS1 camaro needed premium! of course, z28>mustang GT...

i may work on that write up on octane and post it and let the mods sticky it....

it's purely an oxymoron...

but my 93 Ford Ranger 4x4 is running strong at 148K. I'm hoping to get 200K out of it.

Thats more like it! 200k seems to me the most to get out of an American car. 300k out of most imports (japanese) and 400-500k for Lexus . as for VW and other german cars, It makes me sad when people buy them. hahaha

do you ever floor your car and take it to redline? do y ou drive it hard? if no, then you don't have to use 93. it will run fine. just don't expect full power the day you have to stomp on the throttle to get out of the way of a bus or something....
really how much cheaper are we talking though... .20 per gallon, so about $3 if you fill up with 15 gallons. i'd rather have full power all the time for $3.
