Default big systems in ls 400

whats up i got some info on anyone looking to put a system in there ls,i have a 1994 ls with 4 tens and around 3500 watts.if you are going to put a system in your ls. keep in mind that the trunk is totally sealed, because the gas tank is behind the seats(i gues for safty),so heres what you do.......
1.take the factory sub out and you use that hole as a pass through from your trunk to your cabin(cheapest way)
2.drill holes in your back dash to make more pass through holes(kinda diffuclt not really worth it)
3.get a box built,so that the port will come out on your factory 8 inch sub hole.(costly)
4.find a free air 8 inch sub(wont really sound as good as a 10,12,or15
i did number one,and it does not really sound as loud as i want it to but it sounds really really clear and deep,i hope this info helps every one out..

Im going to cartoys soon to get a system in my new lexus. I already have my JL audio wedgeseries subs in the back waiting to get hooked up. So I should I just have them take out the old sub?

I was actually thinking of going with step 3.
Getting a ported box built and having the port hole
on the stock 8" hole through the back deck.

Do you have any pics of your setup?

Im only going with a simple setup not too extravagant.

You can slip wires right through the grommet on the drivers side wheelwell in the trunk. Should be the same grommet for all the amp wiring on the passenger side as well.

Did step one, just finnishing up my fiberglass box to hold my two 12" type r's. mmmmm cant wait, and itll be a sealed box as i like my subs hitting quick. To be honest i dont think there will much a difference between step one and step three, but to each their own...

I am in the process right now. (Nakamichi head unit) Temporarily 4" 2-way Kappas in the front and rear doors, stock sub and stock tweeters. I'm running an A/D/S 4 channel amp and Alpine Vpower mono amp. As of right now I will be running the door speakers and tweeters off of the A/D/S. The stock amp will be retained for the stock sub at this point. I'm also not sure if I can eliminate it completely.

In the next couple weeks I am going to replace the tweeters and install 5.25 woofers in the front doors. I'm also adding some type of sealed box sub 10 or 12", haven't decided which the Vpower will power. My line level converter should be here tomorrow and will be able to test out my creation!

The scosche line level converter worked!

I ran speaker wire out from my amps into the speakers and wired the wires coming out of the factory amp into the input of the converter. Then I ran the front output of the converter into the 1 and 2 channel of my amp and the 3 and 4 channel to the rear speakers. This was also branched off into the Alpine mono amp for the single 12" woofer as well. I have to finish soldering up the wires and mounting everything. System sounds great and I retained the factory deck!

I have a 12" kicker sealed sub in my trunk along with an Audio Bahn 8" in the rear deck. It did increase the bass by alot, but the down side is that one doesn't sound good with out the other.

i have a 98 LS 400. when i had my stock enclosure i could only put in a 5 and 1/4 inch driver. now i have 8 inch drivers where my stock enclosures used to be. the factory doors and panels are all the same. all i did was remove the factory enclosure from the front doors and use it as a template. i used a 3/4 inch mdf board and cut it to the same shape as my factory enclosure. i then siliconed and screwed the wooden mdf board where my factory enclosure used to be. but not b4 i cut a hole to the size of my 8 inch midbass driver. i centered the hole so that the sub will be centered with the hole in the factory door panel. make sure that you dynamat exrtreme the crap out of your entire door. dynamat both the inner and outer sheet metal to help prevent vibration. remember boys and girls.....vibration and flexing is the enemy of good sound!!!!

by the way, i did not have to cut the factory door panels in any way. the 8 inch driver DOES NOT hit the door panel grill either (especially when playing). the door itself acts as the enclosure. if you were to open my front doors you would not know i had 8 inch drivers becasue it still looks like STOCK!!!! Woo Hooo!!!!!

just follow the instructions i mentioned earlier. the hole for the 6.5 inch is smaller than my 8 inch driver so it should be no problem. just use a jigsaw and a marker to make and cut the template out of the 3/4 inch mdf (medium density fiberboard). you can get 3/4 inch mdf and a jigsaw from any home depot. the jigsaw costs approx. $40 dollars from home depot or you could rent it if you don't want to buy. but $40 dollars is worth it. oh, you will need a drill too so you can make a couple of holes in the sheet metal to hold the mdf. unless you just want to glue it to the sheet metal. i recommend using screws and glue together. this of course assumes that your 90 LS comes with factory door enclosures. good luck.
