Hey looks like i came to the right place im a new member and this looks like a great forum. Well i got a few questions for u guys im gonna buy some 20 inch rims all chrome and i need to know whats the biggest tires that will fit without scraping? I have a LS 400 1990 with 145,000 miles with 17 inch neepers not one problem with it since i take extra ordinary care of it. I bought my lex about 4 years ago and it is flawless i love it even though its a 1st generation lex, back then i paid about 10 grand cash when i bought it and it still runs and looks new. Well im pretty sure 225 35 20 tires will fit but will 245 35 20s fit? I dont want no scraping or any spacers and my lex isnt dropped at all yet. I seen a pic on here yesterday somewhere with a guy that had 19s on his lex and he could only fit 2 fingers between the tire and top fender in the back but the front was clear with 3 fingers? I dont want to do any grinding or modding as of now so i would appreciate any feedback from anyone with an older LS400 with 20 inch rims or anyone who knows there stuff and wich tires will fit and the rims i plan to buy are 20x8.5 with a 34 offset (WILL THESE FIT with 225 or 245 tires) and im also looking at another set with a 35 offset. THANKS
thanks for the reply TJ but why u say that in U mean that the 20s will rub? Man i got this feeling theyll fit with the 225s but i dont want to lay out a couple gs and have them rub id like 2 know for sure i cant find anyone with a ls400 on dubs in my little city i like to see before i know EXACTLY what im getting myself into.
I had a friend that put 20's on his 98-00 model I wasn't sure if it was the 225 but the tire would rub the fender in corners and on bumps, so he decided to buy 19s and they worked fine. The wheel well and fender height didn't change too much from the first to second generations, I think Grand_LS4 might be able to tell you a lot more than me.
Well, problem is, when you put big wheels on a stock LS, it looks like a 4x4, so the owners usually lower the car. Problem is, with 20's, you cant lower her, or they will rub, so you end up with a 4x4 look. Thats why people go with 19's, because they look good, and give you enough room to lower your car. UNLESS you go with custom air suspension setup, which can be very expensive.
Here is a long thread you might want to look into:
I was able to fit some 245/35/20s on 20x8.5 wheels. I had Enkei Luxury Series LX-M wheels on my 97' LS. I think the offset was +35. I wasn't lowered at all and had no issues making U turns or rubbing when the suspension compressed.
