Welcome to CL.

'Mighty Lift' model number 95029. All you have to do is reuse the ball joints from the old hood supports by putting them into the new one. You'll have to grind or drill out the retaining ring to remove the ball joints.

Cost for this part from Autozone is $16.99 I recollect.

I ground the mount down far enough to pull the retaining ring out with some long nose pliers. The ball joints come out easily and will snap into the new struts.

BTW. These are very strong lifts...I only needed to use one.

Go to ebay.

Check for someone parting out a car.

Check your local salvage yard.

No one else makes these, not even autozone or advance...

I got mine from Canada. $20 .

Fit perfectly...

This website also give a lot of other useful information. Good luck and hope this saves some money. Lorenzo, (previous post), sorry for the information, but hope you have learned something, also! American ingenuity can bet the high costs of owning great things!

Go with RA40's fix.

Its cheap, not hard at all and easy to install.

Do change one at a time though.

There is a website that has pics and step by step directions.

You can email me for the info if you go this way.

I had these fail on me a couple months ago.

For what its worth, the dealer charged me $145 for two struts and $48 to put them in.
They failed the month before my CPO warranty ran out - how often do you get lucky like that!

That sucks when stuff dies just outside of the warranty.

The Mighty Lift parts...they are inexpensive so a failure there isn't a big deal. I bought two struts but using them both bowed the hood. Those suckers are strong so I only have one in.

Ther are a ton of postings on EBay for hood struts for $39.00. has anyone experienced those? Not a bad price to me. I have been thinking about getting them as my '95 ls400 won't stay up for long now.

OOps, those were for the ES, the ones I got for the LS were from Autozone.
I think the ones from ebay wont be as hard to close as the ones from Autozone.
The ones from Autozone doesnt open the hood as fas as the originals. Also much harder to close.
