Hi everybody. My question today is about a spare fuel pump I bought for my 1993 Celsior.
In a bench test using water I noticed some water coming out of a tiny weep hole in the base as in the pic below. I can feel it if I put my finger over the hole. Is this a problem or is it something that these pumps do for whatever reason? Other than that the pump works fine and pumps very strong.
I am not 100% sure, I do know the oem fuel pumps are very resilient. Mine is still original to the car. But if you are getting leakage out of the weephole on a constant basis on testing it's probably in need of repair. If it just did it once and then you tested it again and it didn't do that again if you are lucky maybe there was just built up condensation in there I have no idea. I guess you'd just have to perform repeated tests, if it keeps doing it then my guess is there is an issue with it on the internals.
I was thinking the same thing. I took it apart as much as I could and there are no seals or o-rings or any obvious way for fluid to come out that hole and it's a small but constant flow out as many times as I tested it but then I began to wonder if maybe the medium I was using to test - water - would cause the pump to behave differently than if it was actually pumping gas and getting the correct voltage from the controller.
