Default Update from may

[img alt="Update from May, after having this for six months I’ve had to do a plethora of maintenance on it. Between my brother and I we’ve probably put 3k-4k total into it and there’s still more work to be done. As of now, we’ve replaced the whole front suspension, the rack and pinion, 4 of the rear differential bushings, the radiator and hose, the distributor shafts, propeller shaft and engine and transmission mounts. Next we’re servicing the transmission and engine.

We’ve got new VVT solenoids, new transmission solenoids, new rotors and brake pads, serpentine belt, spark plugs, transmission filter and gasket, rear shocks, CV axle, o2 sensors, fuel filter, MAF sensor, PCV valve, oil pan gasket all that need to be installed. We’re planning on draining the transmission fluid and putting new fluid in.

[img alt=" As of now, the problems I’m having are low gas mileage, the rear of the car making a noise as I go over bumps and in a cold start The car will slowly move forward even when I press on the gas, then after a few seconds it’ll start pushing forward normally.
This car has been the death of my brother and I but we’re getting it back in shape. Hopefully within the next 2 years it’ll look completely different but only time will tell."]https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clublexus.com-vbulletin/2000x1504/img_2097_baea239e40da5c91e38c038dbf133c3e66690594.jpeg[/img]

The seller definitely screwed me over... But this is my baby now and I’ve claimed it as my own.

what's low gas mileage for you? for a 4.0 liter V8, you can't expect much. i was doing 19-20mpg around town on my 97. 98-00 cars will have an extra gear for improved mileage but similar.
as for the text in bold, i suspect the trans fluid to be low. but if you replace the fluid, make sure you check the level using the dipstick when the car is warm, using the "HOT" side of the stick.

on flat level road it's possible to be getting 30 mpg up until like 65-70 mph, keep it at 50 mph and it's possible to be getting 35 mpg... there's several coolant temp sensors (the one that controls the needle isn't the one connected to the ECU) a bad one of those often results in bad fuel economy since the computer essentially assumes a constant cold start condition

i'm happy to see the car getting the love! but this does seem to reinforce the theory of get the best possible example when buying older luxury cars

I checked the trans fluid when it happened at first, after I drove it for 25 minutes going to work and it was full. We’re suspecting maybe either the solenoids or maybe it just needs new fluid. I’m at 16-18 mpg atm but I also drive about 70-80mph going to work so maybe that’s the case. I would consider 20-23mpg to be the norm, considering a lot of my driving is on the highway.

i do recall getting 25mpg on a long highway stint, even at high speeds over 75mph. of course it also depends on other factors like fuel quality, engine condition, ambient condition, tire pressure and type, etc.

would you believe a cleaner car gets better gas mileage too ?!

but for the best highway mpgs, you need to convert the car exterior to a golf ball casing!
