Default 1992 Lexus LS400 Front driver seat belt retracting problem

Hello. I own a 1992 Lexus LS400 and my front driver side seatbelt is super loose. It isn't retracting at all. Belt is clean. Pulled the belt out completely and still won't retract. Any helpful information in fixing this problem will be grateful. Thank you

Sounds to me like the retracting spring has fatigued and isn't strong enough to pull the belt anymore. My 99 LS400, as well as my previous 03 Avalon, had a similar issue. I don't believe there's a fix other than replacing the seat belt unit with one that works, although I'm not sure if anyone's disassembled these old units to see if the spring can be replaced.

If it’s not retracting AT ALL it sounds like it needs to be professionally repaired. I would check with a company like Safety Restore. Junkyard is also a possibility. I would not try to open it up to DIY.

If it is retracting slow and not enough and retracts better when unbuckled vs buckled, your model year may have a tension reducer that you can unplug, that is the case in my 1995 and I have the tension reducers unplugged on both sides. It is a white plug near the tensioning mechanism. However, that may be specific to 95/96
