Default problems with outer taillights

my outer taillights are not working on my 93 LS, only the lights on the trunk work. Anybody know of a possible culprit before I go ripping things apart to find out whats wrong? I hate electrical repairs, and I don't feel like taking it to the dealer if I can replace the part or parts myself. I do know that one of the brake lamp harnesses is shot on one side, but I've never had a problem with the taillights on both sides at the same time. Internal wiring problem?
