So my ECU went bad on my 93’ ls400, I took it to a friend who said he could fix it(dumb mistake) and he messed the board up and made it unusable. So I went to get a new ECU that has been rebuilt off some guy on marketplace. He gave me the repaired one( I checked the board and caps and everything checked out) and he also said it was from his totaled 93’ ls400, he used the new ECU and it ran good for about a month until he totaled his car. He also gave me a bad ecu that had leaky caps. I got home and plugged the repaired one in, it didn’t work. Some things I ran into was that it wouldn’t rev past 2000 rpm, no CEL at the ON position, and takes a minute to start and when it starts I get a bit of a oil smell. It gave me a CEL when the car was running but I couldn’t grab any codes at all. So I took the repaired ECU out and put the damaged one in and the car ran good and would let me rev up to redline. It also let me check for codes and threw me a code 71. But I just am wondering if the repaired ECU is even compatible with my car because it has a different model number. Do I need to program it or something? Again it’s a 93’ ls400.
I’ll attach pictures below, the one with the black labeling is the repaired ECU that is giving me problems.
the one that has red labels is identical to my original ecu.
