Default Cheap sticky cluster needle fix

I know this is not news to many in this forum but posting in case useful to someone searching. I don’t have mechanical training so this is what it is.

I ordered some black paper clips and a small hand drill off Amazon. Total cost was no more than $20. You have to be extremely careful obviously removing and disassembling the cluster but once apart I drilled small holes with near exact same diameter as the paper clips and created needle stoppers so they rest right above zero. I used black paint pen or sharpie to make sure tips of stoppers black. Also very careful not to scratch face of cluster while you have it exposed, or to bump the needles.

The sticking problem seems solved and for now, the calibration of Speedo seems same as before. Just takes slightly longer to get off resting position but 20mph, 30mph etc seem accurate.

For the back side of the face of the cluster I bent the paper clip against the back and then super glued. It is very snug and I don’t think the stoppers are going any where. Hopefully this keeps them from sticking for a while. It appears to be working based on some test driving.
