Default Downstream O2 Sensor Replacement

Hi all,
I have a P0136 "heated oxygen sensor 2, bank 1" code on my 2000 LS400. A couple questions:
1. Sensor 2 Bank 1 is the driver's side downstream sensor, correct?
2. To replace it, am I able to cut the old O2 sensor off and splice in the new sensor to avoid tearing apart the interior carpet?

Thanks!

1) Yes, Sensor 2 Bank 1 is the Left/Driver's side (in the US) downstream O2 Sensor

See this post for documentation:

2) Sure, that's possible as long as you insulate the wires properly. Ideally with a couple of layers of heat shrink or tightly wound electrical tape after you solder the wires together. It's ideal to disassemble and use the connector of course
