Default Coolant Temperature Sender Location

I am currently trying to replace a few parts in my coolant system. I know where the coolant temperature sensor is located, and have an OEM part to replace it. I am having difficulty locating where the sender for the temperature gauge is located. This is part # 8342016020.

In the middle front part on the engine probably have to remove the upper plastic cover to see it.

Is it in the same place as the coolant temperature sensor?

I don't remember, maybe the temp sensor for EFI is near the water pump? The gauge one has only 1 wire. Is yours actually bad? They generally don't fail but the 1-wire connector likes to crumble and fall off.

My gauge cluster hasn’t been displaying the coolant temperature accurately, usually doesn’t move on my 45 min commute. I’m replacing the thermostat, housing, and coolant temperature sensor.

It is possible your cluster is going bad very common. What year is your car?

It’s a 92. The cluster has already been replaced by the previous owner at a Lexus Dealer, but this was several years ago. I do notice the cluster doesn’t always illuminate when starting the car, maybe 5-10% of the time
