Couldn't find any recent/relevant info on this topic so starting a new thread - anyone know a reliable mechanic in Chicago? I drive a '96 with 149k miles on it - was handed down from my Aunt & has been my daily driver for the last three years. I have a couple specific jobs in mind but mainly looking for a specialized ls400 mechanic to keep in contact with!
Job #1: Climate Control Unit Replacement (just labor I have the part):
Need someone to replace my Climate Switch - or guide me to an aftermarket temp control module that will work for my 96. Heat suddenly shut off, but there is still power running through the dim green backlight in the climate control unit. McGrath Lexus diagnosed it as an issue with the climate module itself, not anything to do with the actual heating/cooling components of the car. Pretty much the problem is that the buttons on the climate unit aren't working. Unfortunately McGrath doesn't have the parts in stock, so I have had to buy replacements on ebay, which i've done multiple times now, with each replacement unit only lasting a few months. No heat in the car will soon be unbearable given Chicago winter temps
Job #2: Radio replacement/repair
My cassette tape is stuck in the radio unit, and I cannot switch the mode into "TAPE" - I can only toggle from am/fm radio. Most likely have to replace the radio unit

I would recommend looking at the audio\AV space and shops locally to you. They're the most experienced people dealing with dashboards, electronics and that entire group of items.

This guy also runs a shop in southwest chicago Suburbs. He's fully stripped the interior of his project LS430 and knows how they work at a pretty deep level.
